The OTPF:

- guides the practice of occupational therapy
- precursor to the document was Uniform Terminology
- differs in relation to the focus of occupation, health & wellness
It is important to learn about because it presents the summary of interrelated constructs that define and guide occupational therapy practice. The document has moved from a reductionist to a more holistic and positive approach to practice as well.
It has several purposes, including those listed below:
· Establishing a common language
· Improving the standard of communication between the practitioner and client
· Focusing on occupation, health & wellness
· Guiding the evaluation, intervention, & outcomes
· Highlighting the occupational therapists' scope of practice
· Aligning with language used by the WHO, including ICD billing codes
